Exterior Design

It’s difficult to grade the aesthetics of the 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback Review range with just one number because of its three body styles and numerous trim levels. Even though it’s easy to mistake it for a hatchback, the 2023 Civic Hatchback sedan is the most popular body style. The Audi A7 is a significant influence on the design of this vehicle. A traditional trunk is found instead of Audi’s hatchback-like tail end. Updates for this year include chrome being replaced by black accents in the front for a cleaner look.

One of the lineup’s most striking models, the Civic Hatchback boasts flowing contours. Sport edition with 18-inch alloy wheels and additional black accents is especially eye-catching this year. Since the Civic hatchback offers the most usefulness, it is unfortunate that its cluttered design makes it our least favorite. However, its shorter tail loses 4.4 inches from behind the rear wheels on the 106.3-inch wheelbase of the rest of the range.

Interior Design

Despite its modest size, the 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback Review offers quite a bit of interior space for a vehicle. Front-seat passengers appreciate the clear visibility and well-organized control layout. There is enough room for tall passengers, and the cloth upholstery is tough-feeling on the LX, Sport, and EX grades. On the EX-L and Touring models, Leather upholstery comes standard with a power-adjustable driver’s seat.

In sedans and hatchbacks, passengers in the back enjoy plenty of legroom and easy access. Of course, the second row of a coupe is more challenging. Legroom is most generous in the Civic Hatchback model, despite its wheelbase being shared by all three body types (37.4 inches, compared to about 36 for hatchbacks and coupes). A track-ready sticky material covers the front seats of the Civic Si and Type R.

Some midsize sedans can’t hold as much cargo as the Civic Hatchback’s 15 cubic feet. Even though hatchbacks aren’t as long as sedans, they have a lot more interior volume than sedans when the back seats are folded flat. The Civic Hatchback’s sloping rear windshield limits its practicality compared to a crossover SUV; however, removing the front wheel allows it to fit a bicycle. Coupes give up cargo capacity in favor of aesthetics, offering only 12 cubic feet of capacity.

With either a 6-speed manual or a continually varying automatic transmission, the 158 hp 2.0-liter inline-4 is found in the Civic LX, Sport, and EX grades (CVT). The standard engine in the 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback Review is quiet and powerful enough for daily errands. There is no typical automatic transmission in the Honda CVT, yet it accomplishes the job well. The gear and pulley system mimics a single gear that adjusts itself constantly to increase power or efficiency. If all CVTs were as good as Honda’s, they’d lose their image as unreliable. This transmission is ideal for daily commuting responsibilities.

Tossing the Civic Hatchback down a twisty road or slogging through a crowded city center is no problem for the car’s quick, direct steering and taut yet agreeable suspension. Standard alloy wheels on 16- and 17-inch Civics provide the optimum handling. The Civic Sport and Touring’s 18-inch wheels look great, but they also let in more road noise and bumps into the cabin. The rear suspension bushings of turbocharged coupes, sedans, and some hatchbacks are filled with hydraulic fluid, making them seem even more composed.

The sporty Si model was released in the 1980s when the next generation of Americans discovered that all U.S. models had fuel-injection technologies and Honda’s VTEC engines.
